BOTTOM LINE
"The stock market is still in a downtrend,
and there is more of it to come. The Sep.
21 FOMC announcement may interrupt
that trend briefly, but we look for an early
October top and then a drop to a mid-
October low. How much of a bounce we
see from that mid-October low is a subject
of some disagreement in our models.
Bond prices should turn up, toward a mid-
November top. Oil and gasoline prices
are getting primed for an upturn, but it
probably will not start for another month
based on gold’s leading indication. The
sharp rise in 30-year mortgage rates to 6%
means continued trouble for that market,
as confirmed by the rapid drop in lumber"
