Shoshin (Japanese: 初心) is a concept from Zen Buddhism meaning beginner's mind. It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying, even at an advanced level, just as a beginner would. Không phải ông tăng đă đánh mất đi cái tâm ban đầu đâu bạn!
Ông tăng đó chỉ không thực hành "tiên học lễ hậu học văn" đó thôi!
Tôi cho rằng "having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying" chia ra ba phần rơ rệt lắm:
1) Attitude of openness: Thái độ sẵn sàng đón nhận.
2) Eagerness: Thái độ hiếu học.
Hai thái độ trên vẫn chưa lột hết được ư nghĩa của "the beginner's mind" mà đến phần thứ ba mới là quan trọng nhất,
3) A preconception is an idea or opinion you have about something before you really know much about it.
Như thế, lack of preconception có ư bảo người tu học vất bỏ những ǵ ḿnh cho rằng ḿnh đă biết là đúng th́ mới nhận ra chân lư ấy chính là the beginner's mind.
