I always surround myself with friends
Ever since I moved away from home
I go to as many events I can attend
Because it’s hard for me to be alone
But I remember when I was young,
If I wanted to go to my friends and play
You’d always say “Go ask Mommy”
The rest of the time, you’d say “No way”
Afterwards I’d be so angry and think...
“Whats wrong with going out with friends?
I’m tired of only playing with just Cindy
I need other people I can depend
These days I can do whatever I want
I can see whoever I want to see
I took advantage of that for a while
But more recently, it’s been just me
I guess I’ve been growing up fast,
And I have to do things on my own
So I’m forced to leave people in the past
In order to stay focused in my zone
Now I see that you were preparing me for life
You taught to not depend on anyone else
If I truly want to achieve something for me
I have to go out there and get it myself
Everything I have now is thanks to you
You taught me hard work and discipline
Especially through math and Vietnamese
Even though it looked like I wasn’t listening
I’m grateful to have a dad like you
To help me be smart, strong, and unafraid
I want to wish you a Happy Birthday
And a happy belated Father’s Day
